The purpose of a retainer is to maintain your new smile.
If you do not use your retainers as recommended, your teeth will start moving back to their original position. During the first 90 days, those changes may happen extremely fast, but even after this initial 3 months your teeth will tend to move back to where they were, which can cause bite problems and compromise your beautiful smile.
Retainers are subject to wear and tear. Therefore, to delay/prevent from this process, take care of them appropriately.
- Keep your retainers in their case when they are not in your mouth.
- Keep retainers away from hot water or any heat source to prevent warping.
- Only use tooth brush and liquid hand soap with cold water to keep your retainers clean.
- Keep your retainers away from small children and pets (even if the retainers are inside the case).
- Retainers are to be worn full time for the first 3 months after finishing the orthodontic treatment. Only remove your retainers to eat, drink anything other than water, and to brush your teeth and the retainers.
- After the first 3 months, you must wear your retainers every night, for life.
We recommend always having a spare set of retainers available.
